Day one of the qualifying rounds for Alliance Tournament VII are complete and teams are now analyzing tactics and ship selections as they prepare for tomorrow's continuation.
The delicate balance between DPS and ECM continued in the second half of the day as Beyond Virginity brought in a battleship heavy fleet to take on Hellstrome Alliance in a solid win for the first match after the break.
The tenth match of the day saw Manifest Destiny field an incredible four strategic cruisers in their fight against In Tea We Trust, who brought a pair of Proteus strategic cruisers themselves. The resulting battle saw the destruction of exactly half of those six expensive cruisers.
Despite the heavy firepower of a pair of Apocalypse battleships and 4 battlecruisers, Indecisive Certainty failed to take out either of SOLAR FLEET's Tengu class strategic cruisers in what turned out to be a heavy hitting slugfest.
ISK SIX seemed to have found a good balance of ECM and DPS as they sailed to a perfect victory despite the presence of three hard hitting Electus Matari battleships during the twelfth match of the day.
Despite heavy penalties, KenZoku managed to grab a win from Laconian Syndicate with their decision to use heavy hitters in the form of two Ravens and two Raven Navy Issues.
A well thought out logistics plan mixed with some judicious DPS gave Morsus Mihi a flawless victory over Night's Dawn in the 14th match of the day.
In what looked like a winning combination, Pandemic Legion's use of two Golems and a Tengu in a "spider" cap recharge arrangement was finally broken by a cloud of Veni Vidi Vici ewar drones and one of the Golems went down. Despite the broken chain, Pandemic Legion held on to the end as neither side lost any additional ships until time was called. With only three losses on each team, Veni Vidi Vici was declared the winner by an extremely slim 36-35 points calculation.
Although RAZOR and GoonSwarm both fielded a pair of Golems and a logistics cruiser, the addition of two Nightmares for GoonSwarm tipped the balance and gave them a decisive victory.
ECM still remained extremely popular during today's qualifying. It will be interesting to see what tomorrow's qualifiers bring to the field to gain an edge.
Match reports for the first day of Alliance Tournament VII qualifying are now all posted along with updated statistics. In addition to the grand total charts available on the Statistics page, every alliance that has participated today has statistic charts available on their biography page.
